You could break a window, but then you’d have to buy a new one and that sounds a little expensive. Keep in mind, the age of your truck will determine how easy this feat will be. Newer vehicles with automatic locks are typically quite a bit harder. The downside is that you have to have door locks that stick up in order for this trick to work. If your truck has this type of lock, you’re in luck. Give this trick a try. This is a type of knot that you can tighten by simply pulling on the ends of the string. It’ll probably be a tight fit but you should be able to get the string in there. Most seals give enough to allow for enough space. Once it has a firm grip pull up and the door should unlock. Easy peasy! I bet you didn’t know you could unlock a car door with a string! But, you have to have a certain type of door handle for this trick to work. If your truck is newer, it probably won’t work.

You have to be able to reach the lock mechanism through the door handle and newer trucks aren’t that easy. Remove your antenna and insert one end into the door through the handle. Once it feels like you’re making a solid connection, push the antenna forward and the door should unlock. Instead of having to buy a specially made Slim Jim, you can use a coat hanger. This technique often works on trucks with manual locks. You’re going to slide the coat hanger down into the door on the outside of your window. The point is to find the control arm, grab it with the hook, and pull it up to unlock the door. It might take a few tries to find the arm, but once you’ve got it, you’re in! If you think you’ll be locking your keys in the car a lot, it may be a good idea to invest in a wedge set. Once you get a big enough crack you can insert an air wedge and pump it full of air to widen the crack even more. We’ve mentioned the antenna, but that only works in short spaces. The antenna will just telescope down if you try to push on your door locks after having slipped it in the door crack. It’s pretty easy to remove the windshield wipers from most vehicles without special tools and you can always count on it to be on hand! And with good reason. You can easily damage the door, especially if you end up doing it a few times. Make sure you get a set that is compatible with your make and model of car. The great thing about this method is that it doesn’t cause damage to the door. You’ll also need a special automotive torsion wrench for this method. This is what professionals typically use anyway to get into your car. The good thing is that you can get into your vehicle without spending a bundle. The bad thing is that so can someone else. You might think twice about parking it on the questionable sidestreet now. Just be sure to wedge it in a spot where it won’t be easily found or fall off when driving. Get the lowdown here ! This is why many would prefer a This is why many would prefer a painful visit at the dentist than an oil change service at a repair center. Unfortunately, the old saying, “if it’s not broke don’t fix it”, doesn’t apply to a modern automobile.

The fact of the matter is, we can take control of future auto repair expenses by spending money in the right place on preventive car maintenance services. Sidebar: National car care month is held twice a year. The spring event takes place during the month of April and the fall car care month during the month of October. A survey reviewing more than 2,000 participating car care aware vehicles, found that 90 percent of them fit in the category of behind on car maintenance services. The spring event prepares your automobile for the unique summer driving experience. Summer road trips and hot weather provide a unique set of challenges for your automobile. The fall event held in October prepares your car for a long harsh winter. In this brief article we’ll talk about taking control of your car maintenance services in an effort to prevent any surprises down the road. I perform these recommended services without hesitation, because the car maker put them in place for their own protection. New and certified pre-owned vehicles come with warranty coverage that stretch as far as 10 years 100,000 miles in some cases. In an effort to reduce warranty claims the designers and engineers come up with a maintenance plan to protect the company and the automobile. Unfortunately, very few car owners take the time to read through the maintenance section of their owner’s manual. However, you must cross check any recommended preventative car maintenance services with the car maker’s recommendations before approving them. Unfortunately, this desire for your automobile to maintain top condition is financially motivated. Don’t get me wrong, the retail auto repair center has a right to make a profit. They also have the right to recommend services that they feel would benefit the consumer. However, these consumers need to be proactive and confirm that the services are for the benefit of both parties.

As an example, a shop that just bought a brand-new alignment rack might recommend alignment services on every car repair estimate as an add on. The problem with preventative car maintenance is your performing a service to a vehicle on a regularly scheduled basis. You carry out the operation regardless of how the vehicle runs or looks at the time. With that said, it doesn’t mean that you need to perform a service that’s not recommended by the manufacturer at that scheduled mileage. In a nutshell, over maintaining an automobile is a waste of financial resources. Nevertheless, not doing any preventative maintenance services can be worse than throwing money away. Take control of your car maintenance and strike a balance between these two extremes. Often these limited maintenance programs last for a three year or 36,000 mile period. During this time, drivers tend to stick to the factory recommendations religiously, because they are free. Although this just boils down to a few oil changes, a tire rotation and maybe an air filter the car gets a good start in life. Now that they have to pay for the scheduled services they might tend to put them off. Let’s use the most basic of all services, the engine oil change, as an example. As a mechanic I’ve seen firsthand what a lack of oil changes can do to the internal workings of an engine. For this reason don’t hesitate to perform preventative car maintenance services at their scheduled intervals. Better yet, go back to my previous recommendation and read through your owner’s manual and lay out a schedule of expenses at specific mileage points. Go nuts and make a spreadsheet. On many automobiles additional maintenance becomes necessary at the 30,000 mile and 60,000 mile markers. Find out how much these services cost and prepare to spend the money when you reach these mileage intervals. Put money aside in advance for these critical services.

You don’t have to put money in a cookie jar, but you do need to have a plan so you don’t fall behind on preventative car maintenance services. The question becomes whether this is the right thing to do or not. To determine the answer to this question we first have to figure out what camp you hoist your flag in. In fact, they might consider replacing the factory installed cast-iron intake with a high-performance aluminum intake manifold sacrilegious. Then we have the folks that buy these classic muscle cars to enjoy them. They want to drive them around and have fun while doing it. Nevertheless, I’m a believer that you can have your cake and eat it too. If you upgrade to an aluminum intake and save the original cast-iron one, with all of the original mounting hardware, you can satisfy both groups of people. Here we’ll talk about the different kinds of high-performance aluminum intake manifolds available. We’ll even get into the differences between single plane and dual plane intakes and which one is right for you. Finally, you’ll discover how much horsepower you can actually gain from this performance upgrade. These include the single or dual plane design. Most people choose the dual plane, because the original cast-iron part utilized this design feature. Therefore, when upgrading to a high-performance aluminum intake manifold, of the dual plane variant, the car basically runs the same throughout the throttle range. However, the main characteristic of the dual plane manifold includes long flowing runners. These runners are polished to a smooth finish that increases the flow rate over the stock component. The dual plane provides improved low-end power, while maintaining engine idle quality similar to the original equipment. This allows for all eight cylinders to feed at the same time. However, the big difference between this set up and the dual plane remains the length of the intake runners. With a single plane set up, the runners become much shorter.

This provides a faster and more direct delivery of fuel to the cylinders. Therefore, a single plane manifold is considered best for racing applications. Now that we understand the difference between the two types let’s talk about the advantages of installing an aluminum intake manifold. Car makers have identified that reducing the vehicle’s total weight increases performance and fuel economy at the same time. The incredible part about their transformation into a lighter automobile is they actually provide better crash protection now. In some cases, these modern cars weigh more than 1000 pounds less than our beloved vintage automobiles. At the same time they get triple the fuel economy, provide better performance and hold up better in a crash. A muscle car like a Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport with a big block 396 cubic inch engine comes with a heavy cast-iron intake manifold. These original equipment parts weigh 75-100 pounds, depending on the design. An aluminum high-performance version comes in at less than 20 pounds. Therefore, this upgrade becomes a major weight reduction operation. Since the intake manifold rides directly over the front springs of the automobile you get a surprising boost in the front ride height of the automobile. In many cases the front springs on our muscle cars are starting to get worn and tired. Reducing the weight that rides on top of them can put a little spring back in their step. As a result the car maintains a healthier looking ride height. When the factory originally molded the cast iron intake installed on your engine they didn’t do the greatest job. Imperfections and bumps inside of the fuel runners reduce the efficiency of fuel and air flow to the cylinders. The aluminum intake not only weighs a lot less, but they buff it to a high polished finish inside. The question that everybody wants to know is how much all this improvement means to the bottom line.
{-Variable.fc_1_url-

In other words, how much horsepower will I gain from a high-performance aluminum intake manifold upgrade. Without getting too scientific we’ll attempt to answer this question. How much you gain depends on a variety of variables. The efficiency of the carburetor and the exhaust system become two major elements to consider. If you increase the carburetor size and the efficiency of the exhaust by installing headers you will receive the maximum benefit from replacing the intake. The combination of replacing these three high-performance components can net horsepower increases from 20 to 60 HP. An interesting side effect of this combination upgrade comes in at the fuel pump. Increasing the horsepower can also increase the fuel economy. With that said, increased fuel economy only comes with grand mom like throttle position. In other words, if you keep your foot off the floor you’ll also receive better fuel economy when you’re cruising around town. Not only do they sound amazing at idle, but the further you push your foot down on the gas pedal, the better they sound. Although this upgrade remains popular, because of the noise a tuned exhaust header creates, there is actually a scientific reason to go for this aftermarket upgrade. If we relate both of these upgrades to how an athlete performs we can better understand why we’ll see a big boost in horsepower. The intake manifold represents the inhalation of oxygen for a human being. The exhaust manifold represents the exhale, but more importantly, the ability to expel all of the air from the lungs. This allows us to take in the maximum amount of oxygen on the next inhale. Imperfections in the casting slowed down the intake of air and fuel. In the same way the sharp bends and rough inside castings of a standard exhaust manifold reduce the flow of exhaust. If we only increase the ability for the intake to pull in more air and fuel, without increasing flow on the exhaust side we don’t reap all of the benefits.

So let’s talk about a few reasons to upgrade the exhaust headers. On a classic muscle car era automobile you’ll find a compact part with 90 turns and ports that share the task of removing exhaust fumes from multiple cylinders. These exhaust manifolds are so inefficient that it actually creates back pressure in the combustion chamber. In other words, exhaust gases don’t flow out fast enough to empty the cylinder. In turn, this restriction of exhaust flow robs the engine of generating its full ability to produce horsepower and torque. When using an aftermarket exhaust header you find dedicated tubes for each cylinder. In addition, you find that the surfaces inside are highly polished. Instead the exhaust takes a long flowing turn that enhances the ability to remove exhaust gases from the combustion chamber. This improves the volumetric efficiency of the engine. Therefore, we can say high-performance exhaust headers provide enhanced efficiency, because of the large diameter tubing, long flowing bends and polished inside surfaces to reduce drag and back pressure. The factory installed these compact manifolds because they didn’t have the room in the engine compartment. With that said, they also didn’t see it as the best way to increase horsepower at the time. Nevertheless, installing aftermarket headers on some classic muscle cars presents major challenges. I installed a pair of Lakewood performance exhaust headers on a friend’s Dodge Charger RT. Long story short, the header installation on the big block 440 cubic inch engine became a nightmare. We purchased model specific parts from a reputable Mopar specialist that designed the headers specifically for the Dodge Charger application. In addition, interference with the upper control arms and the tie rods became another issue. After we completed the installation the true problems began to surface. In order to clear some suspension parts the driver side header becomes the lowest part under the automobile.

After going over a few speed bumps the tubes that carried exhaust gases from the front cylinders became completely smashed closed. Instead of increasing efficiency the end result became exactly the opposite. In fact, you can even find an article about nitrous oxide upgrades you can put in the trunk to provide the boost you’re looking for. But no matter where we decide to boost performance, deciding to upgrade the exhaust headers maximizes the benefits of all the other alterations. I’m talking about cars like the Chevrolet Malibu Super Sport and the Ford Mustang pony cars. These automobiles utilized some of the most inefficient exhaust manifolds ever created by man. It’s not that the original designers of these engines did not understand volumetric efficiency, they just approached the horsepower wars in a different way. They decided to increase combustion ratios and cubic inches to achieve the desired performance level. Of course, they also had leaded fuel available to them at the time. This forced them in the direction of improving the intake and exhaust cycles on modern automobiles. Therefore, the general rule of thumb becomes the newer the automobile the less performance gains you’ll find from upgrading the intake and exhaust manifolds. Why? It’s because the automotive manufacturers upgrade the exhaust headers on their own. They also do a good job on the intake side of manufacturing efficient cold air intakes and intake plenums installed on the assembly line. Here you’ll find more background on the car; it’s history and get access to the Chevy Blazer repair manual for your model. The first model that Chevy rolled out was the K5 Blazer, which featured a full-size pickup truck frame and removable fiberglass top. This model was intended to compete with SUVs like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee. In 1973 the K5 Blazer got a bit of a facelift and Chevy rolled out the second-generation version. It featured more streamlined sheet metal and carryover engines. The fully removable fiberglass top disappeared in 1976, with the introduction of the K5 Blazer Chalet. This version went through several different styling updates until 1991. Chevy also made a baby version of the Blazer in 1982, the S-10 Blazer, which was designed for people who needed less space and wanted an SUV that was easier to maneuver. From1983-1990 it was only offered in a two-door style, but in 1991 Chevy rolled out a four-door version. The Blazer continued to undergo server upgrades until 2005 when Chevy stopped producing them. However, in 2019 Chevy came out with a brand new, completely redone version of the Blazer. This new model is much more visually appealing and offers more horsepower than older models. Taking care of your Blazer is going to be slightly different depending on which model you have. Also, it may be harder to keep older models working properly as their user manuals are not always easy to find.
