When we established our property to build our house in a rural area, we had to have water lines and cable lines threaded through some trees. When we did it, I was forward thinking (I thought) and marked the lines with Survey Marking Whiskers. But over time, dirt, grass, leaves, mulch, and pine straw buried them, and any that were not buried suffered from the ultraviolet sunlight making the plastic tops of the whiskers brittle, and thus the tops disintegrated. Gradually, I found, I could no longer tell where my lines were. Today - after one or two little practice sessions, I went out with the Bounty Hunter TK4 and found ALL of my markers.

There is no way I could have located those lines without a metal detector. Other detectors may have found them; may have found them better. All I can say is - this did exactly what I needed it to do and so paid for itself in a few hours use. Anything else I do with it is gravy. Hopefully it will be useful in other ways and fun as well. In searching the last leg of water lines I got a ping where I was surprised to find one. So I switched to discrimination mode. Got a LOW pitched buzz. Manual says. nickel or GOLD! I'll dig in that place later. Who knows - it might MORE than pay for itself. LOL! Also, FYI, I found the one survey iron rod for a property corner that was close to where I was working that was hammered beneath ground level in a ditch. (I knew roughly where it was). A few more technical items: It is lightweight; easy to handle. It is easy to operate; the manual is clear. Pretty easy to put together, though I'm a little concerned about, as some mentioned, the lower stem to search coil intersection is plastic, with a knurled knob. If the parts are easily replaceable, no problem. Otherwise, might be a weak link that sinks the entire ship. I'm not a treasure hunter (yet) so this may not contain all the stuff you guys would be interested in, but I had read some questions that asked about the kind of interests I had with locating survey rods, etc., so decided to do a review from this perspective.I bought it as a gift for my father to use while he was in a beach house in Florida for the winter. While visiting we used it quite a bit and actually found a lot of metal (see pic). Overall nothing of value, but it was a first time ever user, so finding anything was fun, plus there is definitely a learning curve. First trip out we had a lot of false positives and it was slightly frustrating. But after some time it became easier and easier to find things.

Tips -If you accidentally touch the ground while sweeping back and forth, even very lightly, it will often emit a false positive tone. You'll get frustrated fast. -If you are a first timer i'd recommend the following settings: 1 - Set sensitivity (left side knob) to the 3 o'clock position. Any higher and false positives are common.I purchased this for my first metal detector just to start out and i have to say i like it a lot.it was very easy to put together and set up.I used it the other day for the first time at a local park and i found several coins and i had fun doing it.. For the price you cant beat what you get.If i really get into it i will upgrade but i will always keep this one.going to pick up some earphones for it and i'm good to go. Do yourself a favor, if your thinking about it just pull the trigger you won't regret it this is a very nice metal detector. Packaging could have been better but that has nothing to do with the performance of the machine.Was in tall thick St Augustine, knew general area and I tried all the tricks flashlight at night, cutting the grass real low and using a fine rake but no luck. After wasting many hours decided to get a metal detector ( its happened before and was lost for over a year even after renting a detector the dog found it and had it with her outside toys) she is a tracking dog so makes sense that she smelled me on it. I also read that a lot of serious detectorists learned on the BH Tracker IV and still keep it as a back up to their much more expensive machine. Don’t let all the reviews confuse you.The two 9v Duracell batteries seem to last well so far and this machine can detect more then 6 inches down. I think you can tell that I am very impressed with it. Ignore every other model of a similar or cheaper price. This is tried and tested technology and will give you a fantastic start in detecting but will also stay with you way beyond the novice level.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. It was a short time until I began to get to grips with the various settings but once I got there it became pleasurable to use. I started in the garden on the borders and soon found nails old screws and even paper staples. I would suggest that it bight be a good idea to consider purchasing a pinpointer detector to accompany the TK4G, this has a much smaller field of play making small objects easier to find once the TK4G has said theres something there!! The Tracker IV is so easy to use, within just a few minutes after pulling it out of the box, we were searching around the house and found about 15 newer coins in the first hour. I don't know if I was more surprised by the number of coins in my yard or by how well the Tracker IV was finding them. This little thing is a coin machine. It is extremely lightweight and nimble. The features I like about it are it's simplicity right out of the box, yet it is pretty powerful for the price. It has two knobs, one for sensitivity and one for discrimination level. It also has a toggle switch to move between 3 modes (all-metal, tone discrimination, and regular discrimination). The discrimination works well. I would say that 80 of the time when you think you have a coin, it is a coin. The only things that seem to fool this machine are big pieces of aluminum or pull tabs (if you set the discrimination to still get nickels). This is a common problem with most brands though. In just a few hours of searching a park and an old house, he has found 35 newer coins, a Swiss army knife, and a small silver ring. The only negative thing I would say about it is that the meter really doesn't communicate much information because it always seems to go all the way to the right when it reads a signal. I have recommended the Tracker IV to my family and friends who are looking for a good starter metal detector.

With my experience in metal detecting, I have seen many a detector with flashy symbols, lights, gauges, and colors, but not many have surpassed the ease and expertise with which this simply styled, yet extremely reliable and precise, Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector guides you to your finds. Whether they are silver, gold, copper or bronze, no metals escape the bloodhound accuracy of this light, little treasure. I was amazed at the heavy amount of finds I was able to uncover, without paying the heavy duty price of a very heavy machine. I once swung this little beauty for 6 hours straight, and my arm was no less the wear than when I started. The meter and discrimination settings were easily adjusted, controlled, and able to be read, consistently yielding finds on wet or dry, sand, soil, and dirt. The auto ground balance was a big help, and allowed me the time to enjoy detecting, rather than fiddling with controls. I have never experienced problems finding the target with my Tracker IV. I found numerous silver coins at nearly 2 feet in the sand, and gold rings, pendants, and other goodies, even deeper than that. Consistently finding good targets, you have to rely on what this machine tells you. If you don't hear a strong, steady, signal, and decide to dig, you will only spend hours of back-breaking work digging up total trash. With the discrimination set to just past 12:00, it sets aside all the garbage, and has no problem separating the small time clad pennies from the nickels, quarters, silver, and gold. A strong, distinct, high tone usually means a silver find, and a strong, low tone usually means gold, dimes, quarters, but watch out, you will dig plenty of pull tabs, rolled up aluminum foil, and cigarette boxes, as these usually masquerade themselves as gold, when passed under a detector.I've only had it out a few times so far. It's easy to use and the price was decent. So far I've found some newer coins and a lot of junk like nails, etc.

It comes off easily so I have a tendency to take it off whenever I am doing anything where it might fall off - but I could not find it in any of my usual places that I put it. I was absolutely sick with the thought that it was lost. The only thing I had done all day where it could possibly have come off without me noticing was pulling the hose around to add some water to the pool. I had crawled around on my hands and knees for 2 hours looking through all the grass to find it with no luck. I went out and bought a Tracker IV - came home - put it together - ran through the tests in the book with coins and went out to look for it. I have never used a metal detector before in my life. At first, I had a few hits - but not where I thought I could have lost it. Then I tried the discriminator settings. I tested it with a couple other rings to see that they made the lower tone beep (more of a brrrp sound). Went back out - found one spot with that tone. I have no idea how this product stacks up against other metal detectors - but I can say this: If you lost something important (and it is metal) go out and get yourself one of these. I found my ring and now I have a new hobby! I wanted to buy from Kellyco. But I needed to have one in a day. 110 bucks but no accessories. I was going to the Philippines and wanted to detect but wasn't sure if they would confiscate it. I wanted to bring the AT Pro but couldn't chance it. Well they didn't take it since it is legal to bring one over there. Went to a small tourist island and started detecting. Started out slow trying to get the iron disc and sensitivity correct. Kept digging up nails. But I soon figured it out. Found my first peso coin in like 2 minutes then another and another and on and on. Found a copper witch doctors cross with the scroll still sealed in it. Even found coins from when Marcos ruled there. Dollar for dollar this detector is incredible, I give it a 6 out of 5.

It works so good when set up correctly I'm just going to upgrade the coil and bring it back to the Philippines in early 2018. The only problem I have with it was when the coil is submerged in salt water. False signals out the wazoo. So I just waited for low tide, problem solved. So if you're thinking of a great starting detector this is the one. It works just as good as my AT Pro in wet or dry sand. Love it. It has great discrimination and sensitivity. Make sure you tune it right or it will give erratic signals. I have used it for about 3 years now and haven't changed. I love my detector. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that when you hit the ground it might give off a beep. That's only sometimes. I hunt parks, historical sites, and sometimes beaches. I have found over 3000 coins as a detectorist. The depth is a great feature for the price too. I've picked up signals 9 inches into the ground. The metal detector features 3 modes. Disc., All Metal and Tone. It depends what location you are at but I will use All Metal if I am at a clean area. It comes with an 8 inch super sensitive coil, but you can buy extras. I would recommend a pinpointer because in trashy areas things can get a bit hairy. My best find to date is a 1699 Shilling worth over 1,000 dollars. I have found 21 rings and 1,000 pop tops. I keep everything I find. It was real easy to setup and use right out of the box. I realized that more expensive detectors might be better but in some hunts I found as much as those who had these more costly units. I have hunted old fort sites, campgrounds, rural and rough mountain terrain and found that weight and using it was not a problem. Recently I purchased a 4 inch head basically for closer pinpointing and using it for gold prospecting in the mountains of Georgia with more experienced buddy detectorists.

I believe that anyone who considers entering this hobby of treasure hunting with a detector, that they would be very wise to join a local treasure hunting club and take advantage of members who would guide and teach the basic methods and to convince the beginner to really read, experiment and learn whatever machine they choose to detect with. I was fortunate to be able to hunt and learn the basics from one of the renowned detectorists, Butch Mayes, whom I believe knows about most every detector on the market today except perhaps for the brand new detectors still coming down the pike. In my time hunting with a detector I have accumulated an assortment of coins artifacts, kids toys of years gone by, objects that someday I will identify and a small amount of nails, washers, tools and other not real valuable but valuable in the sense that it was a FIND! I had bought it when I was thirteen and did not know anything about metal detectors. I was always interested in the subject of treasure hunting, but never have done it. With the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV everything was an ease. I went to my back yard and started digging coins and of course TRASH. With the Tone ID and Discriminator switch I would know what was what in a matter of days. The battery life was amazing. The Tracker IV ran for forty plus hours before changing them. What I really did like was the durability of the detector. Then the day came that I headed out to the beach being that I live in Miami. Thanks to the automatic tuning detecting the beach was an ease. The Tracker IV was picking up all the targets that I wanted to hear. The Tracker IV had great depth. In one hour I already had found six dollars and fifty seven cents. Also found a junk gold ring. My typical finds were coins and the occasional jewelry. This metal detector exceeded my expectations. Being such an inexpensive detector I would think that it would not perform well, but indeed it did.

After that day I was hooked and was calling back Kellyco Detectors ordering accessories for my detector. I say because of this detector that I am remarkably experienced. I would definitely recommend the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. Beginner or expert the Tracker IV can be very rewarding in the issue of money and fun! Since that time I have had the opportunity to go out treasure hunting with my detector 8 to 15 times a year, which isn't a lot but is always fun. Even though I don't go out a lot with my detector I have to say that it was very easy to set up and read. The buttons are easy to understand and the different selections are just a click of the button and turn of the dial away. I have even been able to teach my 6 year old the basics to use the metal detector and he even enjoys it. I have tried to, typically, go to local parks or areas that surround old schools that are now closed down. The parks are a great place to go to with the Tracker IV because of the relative ease in changing your search criteria and it seems to penetrate into the ground fairly deep. It also helps that the weight of the metal detector is light enough to not hurt your arm, elbow or shoulder after long duration scanning. While scanning old school grounds I have found it nice to tune out metals that seem to show up all the time, like those old coke can pull tabs. Since starting my metal detecting career I still have not focused on any particular type of searching, other than when in a park I try to search for coins or jewelry and at the school sites, trying to search for old coins or maybe something that a student would have used either for lunches or a toy of some sort. It works reasonably well for my current needs. I have used two different White's detectors owned by friends and when I am in the market for a new detector I will be evaluating the White's line of detectors for my next purchase.

It was the perfect beginner detector for me as someone who was just going to see if this would be a hobby to stick with. Well, I have stuck with the hobby and the detector for all those years. Most of the detecting that I do is coin shooting at local parks and school yards. Occasionally, I get lucky and find jewelry items. More than coin shooting, I really enjoy searching for Civil War relics. I just don't get to relic hunt as much as I would like to because I have to wait for a building to get torn down and that doesn't happen too often. I have been successful in relic hunting and coin shooting finding bullets, buckles, buttons and numerous coins. It doesn't matter what I am searching for. I just enjoy getting out and enjoying a wonderful hobby. This makes the detector very easy to learn and operate. It is virtually a turn on and go type of detector. It is quick and easy to adjust the settings to the areas I will be hunting and type of hunting I will be doing. Just as with every detector, it takes practice to learn how the detector responds to the different types of targets. Once the different tones are learned, it is easy to discriminate by the sounds of the tones. By tuning the detector per the area and type of hunting anyone can be successful. With the light weight (less than three pounds), the S-type handle and the padded arm support, it is easy to enjoy metal detecting for hours at a time. I have hunted side by side with a more expensive detector and have been just as successful when it comes to depth and discrimination. With its ease of operation and low cost, I would highly recommend this detector. I met him when we were both 12. Now we are each 14 and getting into treasure hunting. We have gone metal detecting numerous times with his metal detector and are having a wonderful time. We primarily coin shoot and are getting into relic hunting old sites.

Although it does not have the bells and whistles of a more expensive detector like the Ace 250, it is almost as good, especially for the price. It has extremely good depth for a machine in it's price range; I have found coins at a depth of 8-9 inches, much deeper than most things I dig. It's controls are simple to operate but helped me learn how to work more complex machines. The 2-tones are great, a low tone for junk and a high tone for coins, jewelry and other valuables. If the low tone sounds, it is always junk. The tones are very reliable, I don't think I have ever heard that junk sound and dug a good piece. This machine has good discrimination and is nice and simple to use, perfect for the beginner, but also great for an expert's backup machine or anyone's intermediate machine. The coil is great, it detects from tip to tip. It is also waterproof. It is lightweight and can be abused without breaking. Only requires 2 9-volt batteries. I could use this detector for the rest of my life and have no complaints about it. I am amazed at how good this detector is and recommend it to everyone! Recommend for a beginner. User friendly.
