It will ball up your clothes into the big ball that you speak of and take hours to right itself on it's own by adding more and more water unless you are standing right there. There's no throwing a load in and leaving the house to do errands. You must stay near your machine to prevent it. Gad, I hated that machine and just thinking about it gives me heartburn all over again. I'm so sorry you and I wasted our hard earned money on this awful machine.

I have a GE front load with matching dryer now and it's much, much, much better but honestly, the old fashioned machines were the ones that cleaned and actually rinsed our clothes. If not, try the Bulky Items cycle or Delicate to see if the results are better. Are you using the Sheets cycle. Are you loading the sheets as the washer manual instructs? It was worth the time I spent. I hope that's not the case. I hate them both. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Don't waste your money. I love, love mine, which I have had for two years now. In fact, when my dryer at our main residence died, I really wanted to replace it with a Bravos dryer like we have at out lake house, but I decided to economize and got a GE Profile dryer instead. I hate it and wish I had gone ahead and gotten a Bravos instead. I confess I rarely use the steam feature on the dryer that I thought I would use a lot - but it has been handy when I needed it. I don't understand how the washer gets out all of the dirt with so little water, but it does and I'm happy with its performance. What in particular do you not like. Perhaps some of us on this Board who like ours can help with what you don't like. And no, I have no affiliation or connection to Maytag. I'm just a plain old (ahem, OK, middle aged) consumer who likes her washer and dryer. I think they are such cool looking machines. I do not own one but I've seen lots of videos and reviews on them. It's either a LOVE or HATE with them. Based on what I've seen, I don't think I would like them. I fear I would always use the bulky cycle for everything if I owned one. I can't imagine them just designing this machine assuming it would clean clothes. It's just so hard to watch so little water and watching and waiting for the top part of the clothes to get circulated underneath. It's like watching a clock move. It happens eventually, but you don't see it by watching it unless it's time lapse. I really dislike the Bravos. I can see nothing good about this machine.

Sure it holds a lot but the clothes are not clean when they come out and there is not enough water to even cover the clothes lightly. Sometimes I think the clothes are merely wet but not remotely clean. Had enough of the Bravos. I know some love them but they are just not for me and yes, I read the manual and am intelligent enough to know how to use a machine like this. I am just weary of the mushroom cloud of solid rock sheets having to be pulled apart and the wrinkles in all of our clothes. It doesn't do it every time just often enough that it keeps me on edge when I do laundry. Washing clothes should not be rocket science and worry one so that they can't leave the area when the washer is running. The steam dryer does nothing to take wrinkles out BTW. Good luck. The sheet issue can be solved by binding the middle of the sheet; I tie mine in a knot to avoid the billowing it creates. Solves the problem. There were some things I liked; but the machine began to malfunction more and more. My advice would be check out Speed Queen. The last of the true heavy duty agitator washers left. What water temp do you use, what detergent, and is your water hard. Soft? What is your method of cleaning the washer. One of the most annoying problems to me is that everything washes on COLD. Also there is no soak cycle--can you believe it--the soak cycle was something important to me as i used it often!! I can't believe I wasn't informed upfront on this--do some of these appliance stores get some sort of incentive to sell these--I needed one right away and I said i wanted the traditional machine, but they said they would have to order it. Now I think your only option is to sell it, eat your losses and buy a different one.but research first. Everything about it was a disappointment. Everything still smelled like fabric softener after re-washing. So I question whether the washer gets clothes clean at all. I also noticed the so-called agitator action never reached the items along the outside of the tub. Those items got a nice, long soak but no agitation. Was thrilled to get back home and use my Maytag front loader. Now that machine gets clothing clean. And the spin cycle leaves them nearly dry, so drying time is greatly minimized from my previous front loader (Frigidaire). From my experience, get a front loader. If you must get a top-load machine, stay away from Samsung machines, which today were recalled due to explosion issues. Like during the drain portion, not spin, but drain. Mine is so loud it is contributing to my insanity level. I have a Whirlpool brand new and cannot stand the noise. The dryer has a thumping noise. I tried to get Home Depot to do something for me but they have not. All this in another thread. But I'm glad you like your Maytag. I really love all the features on my front load Whirlpools but just wish I had a new set. I'm convinced someone returned these or they were damaged in shipping because of all the damage to the door and the dryer funkiness. BTW, I had the Bravos machines and they did not even get the clothes wet, it was disgusting. I got rid of them after I couldn't stand them another minute. The dryer was loud for a new machine. My GE pair were the quietest front load washer and dryer I've owned. I really like this new washer from Whirlpool except for the loud noise it makes on draining. Home Depot has been awful about customer service this has been going on for months trying to get them serviced or replaced. But back to my question sorry to go off on that!!! The Whirlpool are nearly silent except for the hideous drain noise, not spin, drain pump noise. Absolutely no thumping when the dryer is running. Perfectly smooth. I wonder if your unit was properly leveled using the little feet on each corner of the dryer. (The washer has them, too.The folls that like must never get really dirty. Dates to 2011. Has bad bearings and is quite grungy, poor usage habits probably contributed to the bearing failure.Put the laundry in and let the machine do it’s thing, right. Not for me! I bought the Maytag Bravos MVWB835DW HE washer in November 2017. It’s been 5 months and I’ve never (literally never!) been able to wash sheets or blankets without it getting off balance, even when I use the Sheets option. And once you get the OFB indicator, you can’t fix it. I’ve tried to move the sheets around and restart it but it just beeps and won’t let you continue. The other problem is sometimes I just can’t get it to start for any type of load, and I have to go thru the reset routine. I wish I had read more reviews of this machine. I wish I had a sledgehammer that I could take to it. My last washer I had for 27 years and it never gave me a problem for the first 26. This one is a constant problem. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. I used to get them, but I switched to front loaders and couldn't be happier. I've had this Maytag MHW5500FW for almost two years. The spin cycle almost completely removes the rinse water — with no balance problems — so my dryer doesn't need to run as long to dry the loads. My point it, if you can hang in there with the model you have, you'll probably need a new machine in about 7 years. At that point, consider getting a front loader. We bought both the washer and dryer 2 years ago. I'm 65 and have been doing wash for a long long time. This machine twists and wrinkles everything. I even have to iron my pillowcases. I've never had this with my other washers. The dryer isn't much better.

I've tried different settings too and it doesn't make a difference. Had to have my dryer repaired twice. Paid more than buying a new one. I tried it with one sheet, still the same. And it balls up the clothes as well. Dryer takes two runs to dry. Terrible machines. I take no pride in my laundry at all, I wish I could afford a new set, I think I have had mine for 2yrs, bought from HD. I really wanted to like it.but I really.didn’t like it.at all! It washed your average sized loaded of clothes fine, but forget about a huge load of clothes that it’s enormous tub could hold but could barely roll over. And mine went off balance with sheets as well, and forget about washing even a queen-sized comforter in it.it would just basically turn back and forth and become this gigantic “mushroom” during the wash and rinse phases of the cycle.and it was set to the bulky cycle. The bulky cycle for me was the biggest disappointment of this machine. I really wanted something that could handle a king comforter and while te Bravos could hold it, it definitely couldn’t wash it effectively. Was very happy to say BUH-BYE to that washer when I moved out of my condo. We inherited a Frigidaire Affinity front load set in our new place and while I am very happy to be back using a front load washer, I am looking for a bigger front loader than the Affinity to tackle my disabled sons massive amounts of laundry.If you like washing the same items over and over again to get them clean then this is the machine for you. If you want to wash a load just one time, dry them and enjoy the rest of the day then this is not the machine for you. It does not get your items clean unless you spray a pre wash and let them soak before washing. So please don't do as I did and get stuck with this piece of junk. Like I said, RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS MACHINE. I've only been doing it for 30 years or so. This washer is awful.

The twists and wrinkles in shirt sleeves and pant legs are so bad that they are almost permanent. I could probably pull out an iron, but I've never felt the need to iron jeans before and I don't feel like starting now. Can't wait to get rid of this and go back to a front loader. I bought the extended warranty from Lowes and I've had the unit for a little over a year. I hope there's some recourse but I doubt it at this point. They are LIGHT YEARS better than the Bravos I had in a previous home. My goal was to find a washer that let use as much water as I wanted. I'm old so don't try to convince me you can get clean clothes with a cup of water;) It's a HE model but I always override the settings so I can use a lot of water. Good stuff and jeans in cold. It was having it's 5th repair. Piece of junk if there ever was one. I purchased this from Lowes and it had the 1 year warranty. I believe the door switch went out that first year. Oh but come that second year.thank heavens for that first repairman giving me the heads up to buy the Lowes Protection plan. Lowes suggested I contact Maytag for a buy out.I did and they mumbled around telling be it's a warranty problem! Oh bite me. There is a law called The Magnuson-Moss Law that is suppose to protect consumers if an appliance has repeated repairs for the same problem. Well here I am Maytag. I don't know where I'm going next but I guarantee Maytag has not heard the last from me! Water level barely if at all covers the load, When it spins it looks like its going to blow up it rocks and bounces so bad. Repair man coming tomorrow after 3 months of putting up with this washer.
