The bread smells wonderful, but I must admit I finished the top off in the oven (pale didn't looked cooked) However, I must ask, what size slow cooker do you use. The bread rose right to the top of mine. The loaf is about 8 inches high!, but it took more like 4 hours to look cooked enough to tip out and finish in the oven. I can see the slow cooker on low, would be very useful for rising bread in this cold weather. I think I will try it again and put baking paper on the bottom, so it can be tipped out easily and then divided into my loaf tins, for a final rise. It's a Breville Banquet something-or-other and has warm, low and high settings and I had it on low. Might try BV's chicken recipe. Do you leave the skin on as you would for a normal roast.It does, however, come out perfectly cooked. I mould the bread to make it fit nicely in my cooker (which is oval). Crockpot is a generic name, but it has been taken from a much earlier method of cooking in crocks, there is even a style of baking rewena and other types of bread, in a crock that is very like a flower pot. Slow cookers are named that precisely because Crockpot happened to patent the name. They didn't always have the rights to this though.Just put it on, on high. It's a variation on using the slow cooker Pork Chow-main 500 grams pork mince 1 medium kumara, 1 medium swede, 2 medium carrots all peeled and diced Thinly sliced cabbage. Later, prepare vegetables. Preheat the slow cooker. Combine mince, vegetables, (except the cabbage) heated stock, stock powder and cook 2 hours. Combine the rest of the stock with flour and stir gently through. Put the shredded cabbage on top and cook further until the cabbage is just done. Doesn't take long. Serve with either a bed of noodles, or mashed potato.

Results achieved are quite good, it’s just a shame that the size of the loaf is restricted. NB: Breville recommends 2teaspoons of yeast with bread mixes and a better loaf is achieved if you follow Breville’s suggestion and increase our recommended yeast level to 2teaspoons.

However for optimum results use the Medium Loaf recipe using 500g of bread mix (it claims to make a 1kg loaf, but this is very heavy and sticky). Reduce water (up to 50ml less than general recommendation) to assist with dough development. Contrary to Breville we highly recommend 500g bread mix to avoid dough falling onto element and creating potential fire hazard. NB: Heat loss occurs through the viewing window in the top of the machine; so we recommend for everyone to put a few layers of Aluminium foil over the window. Hints: Use lukewarm water in winter as the machines do not have a pre-kneading warming cycle (Some brands do). In some cases, yeast may be increased to give a fuller volumed loaf. The “basic” setting gives a fairly average result, so suggest the “crusty” setting which appears to have replaced the old “French” setting. NB: Heat loss occurs through the viewing window in the top of the machine; so we recommend for everyone to put a few layers of Aluminium foil over the window. Selecting the French setting with the loaf control on 1.0kg is found to work best with Laucke Bread mixes. NB: Breville recommends 2teaspoons of yeast with bread mixes and a better loaf is achieved if you follow Breville’s suggestion and increase our recommended yeast level to 2teaspoons. Best results are obtained by using the French Setting (no. 7) and Medium Crust.
