This is like a college book verse a kindergarten book. Too much better understanding of what is going on!I borrowed other publishers manuals from the local library to help my son work on his Jetta. We bought these because the others were too general. There is no comparison between these and the paperback versions other publishers sell. I have always found Bentley manuals to be very clear with more pictures and diagrams than their competitors.

Witt 4.0 out of 5 stars I had read on VW sites that this was the best after-market book out there, so I spent the extra money. It is more complete and has better diagrams than most of the Chilton or Haynes manuals I have owned, but I don't own either of those for this model, so I can't make a direct comparison. It is much thicker, and quite a bit more expensive. I got through the job in a weekend without too many wrong turns. One problem with the manual on this job is that it is not very specific about how to detach the heater box from the fresh air blower, and the diagram in the book is from a different model. To be fair, the book can't have a specific diagram for each and every model it covers, as it covers eight years and four different engine configurations. (There are two metal clips attaching the heater box to the blower housing, if you're doing this job.) The numbering of procedures in the book is a little confusing at first, but I caught on. Also, the wiring diagrams are broken down into different systems on different models for different years, so sometimes it takes a bit to find what you are looking for, especially if you are looking for a particular color-coded pair of wires that you forgot to label when you detached them. (Don't ask how I know this.) The organization of these diagrams would be great if you were looking for a specific fault in a specific system, I would imagine. Overall, it's a good book and seems fairly complete. I'm looking forward to doing some other little repairs on the car, such as replacing the cylinder head gasket (valve cover gasket) and other things that come up on a 124,000-mile car. If you are planning to do repairs and maintenance yourself, I would say this is a good investment. If you are doing a simple job or want to leave the complicated jobs for a mechanic, you might get by on a cheaper book.

I have used it for a ton of stuff: Water pump replacement, valve lash adjustment, kill switch install, various gauges wired in, brake job, and more. This thing has all the torque specs, tire pressure info, wiring diagrams, step by step instructions. Much better than the other books out there. I consider it essential to buy this book if you own a Mk2 VW car. I have a 1991 VW Jetta TurboDiesel with the five-speed manual.Extraordinarily comprehensive and thorough, well and clearly written. It explains each system in great detail, with specs, troubleshooting, and step by step instructions. It definitely assumes you have a solid basic understanding of cars and decent mechanical ability. It's not cheap, but it will pay for itself very quickly. Forget Haynes or Chilton.get the Bentley. You won't regret it!First it can help you diagnose what may be wrong with your vehicle, then it breaks it down Barney-style on how to correct it. Additionally, for every task it has directions for it rates the difficulty and lets you know what you will need to complete said task. If you can handle Ikea furniture with its simple, wordless directions, you can repair and maintain your car with this manual.I was looking for a manual that would provide detailed information on the systems and components of the 4-cylinder diesel engine family built by Volkswagen. Unfortunately, this manual was a bit too broad in scope for my purposes. It would be excellent for someone who owned or serviced one of the models of VW covered. It is important to point out that the return services provided by Amazon.com was excellent!They're informative, if not complete. Then when I've had a foreign car (ie German) I've tried the Hayne's manual. Worthless. I finally did the research and bought the creme de la creme, the Bentley manual for my 1986 VW Jetta, after having been stymied on many projects trying to use the Hayne's. Great stuff. Clear photos, concise instructions, so far very factual, informative and correct.

The Bentley is printed on sturdy, bright white paper. There are no photos, but the illustrations are much more useful than the pictures. As an example, I needed to replace the nuts for the wiper arms. The Haynes was no help but the Bentley told me in the exploded wiper diagram that they were M8 nuts. I replaced the heater core in the car with the Haynes and was frustrated beyond belief at the poor editing, fact checking and cross referencing. I simulated the same procedure with the Bentley and I think the task would have been about 30 easier if I'd had this book for the initial run. The wiring diagrams and trouble-shooting sections alone in this book are worth twice what I paid for it and are either generic or completely missing in the Haynes. Short of having the actual VW service manuals and guides I don't know how you could get better.It covers everything in high detail and shows how Volkswagen intended you to fix your car. You can find anything you need to know in here.It is actually much easier to follow procedures when doing repairs job that require a high degree of knowledge and information. This manual as even Torque Specs.Also the correct tools to use for completing repair jobs.They are huge (bought one other), but they are amazingly skimpy when it comes to actual instructions how to do a job. Plus, some jobs aren't even mentioned at all as if the part were never in need of service. Bentley has fallen in quality to a level just above Haynes but at 4 times the price. Not sure I can recommend these for either DIY or professionals anymore.

I bought this to service my vw jetta,,mostly for specs and wiring diagrams. From a professional level this book is very good. It has lots of valuable info and specs for the diy weekend mechanic. The wiring diagrams are full and there are a ton of them. I read wiring diagrams daily for my job, but found these very difficult to follow. I feel theres too much wiring and items on each page. The wiring pics are small and its hard to follow each wire from page to page. You almost have to use a magnifing glass to follow thru the diagrams. All in all its worth the cash if you plan on servicing your own car. The chilton or other similar books have limited info, and are more geared to the diy mechanic. This book is more greared to someone who knows what parts make up a car and what makes one tick.Expensive, yes, but worth it. Way more useful than the Chilton and Haynes manuals. I wish I had bought this years ago as it would have saved me time and frustration.Change a tail light cluster, cabin air filter change, engine air filter change.I just like my car and i'm curious about things. So this book is just what i needed. There are also details specific to models which i couldnt find in my Haynes manual (my first repair manual). Let me just add that this book is far far better than Haynes manual,which is the other popular publisher you'll come across. And also this book is better than having a dvd, no matter how detailed the dvd may be. Simply because you can find what you want when you're working on the car. I've tackled an engine swap, transmission swap, suspension replacement (everything from shocks to bushings), new axles, wiring, you name it. Bentley has been my right hand man through it all. Don't mess with Chilton or Haynes, get the Bentley!There is nothing regarding the clutch lever which activates the clutch which has been known to strip.

I contacted Bentley and they have no information on this. However if you are mechanicaly minded it is simple to remove the housing at the tip of the transmission which houses the lever and repair. 5 star if you are a mechanic, I'd guess at 2 star if you're not. KPI changed the cylinder head gasket on my VR6 (very cool motor BTW) with this book. There is a ton of good information for doing service in this. I found myself reading this for enjoyment at times. I own 3 Bentley Manuals.There are very detailed descriptions in here that will guide you through any maintenance you may need to perform on your car. I really recommend it to anyone that wants to maintain their car themselves.Much better than the Haynes manual. I probally will read closely through it next time I need to do some mechanical work to my car (i have already dismantled my engine once and rebuilt it, runs great) Book is quality, lots of information, clean dialog, and has reliable photos of the real car. Problem: This book focuses heavily on scirocco and I noticed has little room for the Rabbit. Especially my special year model - 81. Even it seems the sections I browsed through it gives priority to scirocco and jetta above the rabbit.Not sure what else to say.Lots of good info. Schematics are the same way but spread out all overI bought this book thinking it would help me with maintaining my VW rabbit. Well, It pretty much sits in the back hatch of my car on road trips (just in case) or on the bookshelf. Picture illustrations are 2D nothing really to help identify what you are looking for or at. However, it is a start to learn about the vehicle.but you will need more.It basically tells you how the car can be disassembled and reassembled so that you can perform repairs and replace broken parts. Even if the work is beyond your capabilities, it helps you diagnose problems and informs you of what needs to be done. Bentley manuals are a worthwhile investment. I bought this book because I buy one for all my VWs and it was highly discounted on Amazon. These manuals were critical before the Internet. Now you can go to vwvortex, and after much searching, find information similar to this manual (sometimes with lots of good photos). I generally check both.

Even though my car is relatively new (6 years old), there have been two instances where I needed this manual and was happy I had it on hand. This manual is nicer than previous Bentleys. It uses high quality paper, better printing, and even includes beautiful color diagrams (the Jetta Sportwagen manual is hardcover). This increased complexity has reduced the utility of the Bentley manual even though it is better than Bentleys for earlier VW models. But it definitely still worth buying.I'm a DIYer with a 2008 rabbit, and this manual definitely provides more than I need to keep my car maintained and perform minor fixes. Frankly, I had been reading stuff off forums on the internet, and there is so much inaccurate crap there that sounds right. Just keep in mind that if you don't want to do much of the work yourself, this book is probably a little too much for your needs. I do find it good, however, for determining what tasks I can do myself, and what tasks I should get a pro to do. As well, if I do need a pro to do something, I will know exactly how to talk to them about the fix and hopefully not get screwed. Plus, its just cool to sit and read random sections and learn about how the thing works.Many times, this method proved time consuming and confusing.The time and frustration saved by having an accurate, easy to read and understand reference made for money well-spent. If you plan on doing ANY maintenance, I highly recommend you have this manual at your side.Best reference work working on GTI.I already replaced the blower motor and resistor as well as a very hard to to access relay.Some pictures are zoom out from low resolution, so lines are not straight. All electrical drawings are very small, you need magnifying glass to see it. As times are changing there is less info to the publisher from the car manufacturers. I am doing restoration and conversion to electric so I found this manual very useful.Repair information is very limited.

I am very upset with this purchase, because everything in this book, I can find online with a couple minutes search on google. My Haynes manual is more useful. Do not purchase.Better just using YouTube and google to fix your car but I have used both just to make sure on torque specs are right and parts.I've owned Haynes books before, but this one just blows the Haynes one out of the water in terms of content.
