Just joined tonight. To make a long story short, I have a 2002 PT Cruiser LTD and currently involved in some electric problems with same. But thanks to the humongous amount of information here I think I have it solved. (Only time will tell). Ok. Here we go. A lot of people have been searching for a shop manual for the 01-04 PT. Well I found one at: 01-04CPTC.pdf. It's a PDF download without all the ads and other hoops you have to jump through. Just trying to give something back. Hope you can use it and thanks again for all the information. I am old and am going to gum some dinner.Hope I don't have to use it anytime soon. Anybody else what to give it a try?I'll let you know!Shelf is gone. The arm rest unscrewed and fell off. It's on its 3rd timing belt. Surviving the northern Wisconsin winters. barely. Shelf is gone. I hope i do not need to uses it but it will be very helpful for me to know this as a new used PT owner. I've been reading online that there are aftermarket alternatives to replacing the entire cable. Does anyone have links to such and is there any how tos on how to do this? Thanks.Hehehe, I've only had Hondas and Subarus. Had to get rid of the Subaru so now I only have a Honda and a Mazda. Me on the other hand, I started with a 93 Civic that I boosted to 15lbs, then got a WRX, then traded that in for an STI. Sold that and bought a Forester with a 30R turbo putting down 300AWHP, but had to sell it in order to buy a house and had to get a cheap daily driver Mazda I think everybody should replace them proactively as my wife was stranded twice and cost me two tow bills. Trans didn't last long after that. I do beat the hell out of things though. If I could do it over I'd just use the stupid atf4 they recommended at the two dealers I calledI was going to reply about Ed Peter's recommendation from that same video. Eventually after a little muscle and sometimes tranny fluid it would pop in and I could go on my way however this morning I got up to leave for work and it would not come out of first gear. After a little maneuvering I got it into reverse and backed up the driveway and then ironically it would not come out of reverse so is this my transmission going on me. And if so is this a common problemThe shifting is performed by two cables between the stick shift and the transmission.

There are two bushings at the transmission and two bushings at the stick shift, under the console. These bushings are known to be a wear item, and have to be replaced during the life of the car. I've replaced bushings on three occasions. Once, it was pretty dramatic. Fiddling with it, I got it back in gear and nursed it home. The other two times, the bushing replacement was just preventative maintenance. Oops, the above is for a 5-speed manual. On rereading, you mention adding transmission fluid.
