I'd stay with a good major brand that's still around and parts are readily available. Keep a look out on this forum and on craigslist. Parts are readily available and the motors are bullet proof. Maybe a carb clean, a thermostat, new plugs, or an impeller may be needed.If you aren't running it all the time, they just start to die.

It never seemed to run correctly since I got it. It would bog down when you put a load on it and would idle okay but eventually die if you left it idling for over say 30seconds. I tried adjusting it and nothing seemed to work. The main problem is bogging under a load. I have since purchased a new carb for it and I still have the same problem. The high speed I cannot dial in it just bogs down horribly no matter what its at. Any ideas what going on? Dan Is there a petcock that could be switched out. Assuming You have the fuel tank cap with an adjustable screw on it, maybe it's getting too much or not enough air. Spark plug change? Play with the choke (last year, my new 2011 wants half choke or it will die when throttle is pressed). The obvious answer- take it to a small engine or jiffy authorized repair shop. Cleaned the carb and replaced the diaphram on the carb, runs great now. The carb diaphram is a good place to start, they don't last forever. It slightly differs from the above post way to adjust, But I agree it must be done with the engine cold for the final tweak. What I didn't quite understand was do you adjust the high speed screw while running wide open to get the most rpm or do you just adjust it for a smooth transition from idle to high speed.I am going to record my screw settings and try adjusting it both ways and see which is better. DIAPHRAGM - SINGLE AND DUAL ADJUSTMENT Turn the mixture adjustment screw(s) clockwise finger tight, then one (1) turn counterclockwise. This setting will allow the engine to be started so that the carburetor can be fine tuned. Do not adjust the carburetor when the engine is cold. Start the engine and let it warm-up for approximately 5 minutes. NOTE: On dual adjust, the first adjustment must be made with the main mixture screw.
