Login to post Wife said it heated up the whole kitchen and finally unplugged it. There are tamper proof screws as well as needle nose pliers needed to disassemble what appears to be a unit that is not intended to take apart or service. All I did was release the mechanism that holds and powers on the device then scrape the metal contacts with an emery board. Unit works but this buys me time to find a replacement. It won't be another 170 dollar disposable Breville made in China that's for sure. Good luck to you.Removing the cover was the trickiest part - my machine had screws with triangular holes in the heads that a normal screwdriver would not fit. I found, however, that these are the same screws as used in McDonalds Happy Meal toys, and you can get special drivers on ebay or from amazon for them. After that it was just a question of cleaning all the contact points inside the toaster (make sure the toaster is UNPLUGGED!!). 15 minute job.If trying to remove the filter ring, make sure you have a long screwdriver.I suspect that the Timer has faulted. Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings based on a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. OBX 5.0 out of 5 stars I love the fact that you can sync two different types of foods and have them finish at the same time. Everything was delicious. There will be a while of getting used to the setting and which times work best for our tastes and preferences, but that's to be expected. The stainless steel makes it very easy to clean up. It can't hold smells, even with fish or shrimp (which we cooked last night). The water reservoir seems to be huge and holds more than enough water for the entire cycle. I haven't tried using the whole tray as a single steamed item, but I'm looking forward to crab legs very soon. It was awful to clean, and the smell was never quite gone. This is a whole different experience.I spent a few days researching steamers and this one just made the most sense. We have made 4 meals in it now and are thrilled. The dual zone and sync feature are what put it over the top for me. Also, it is very easy to clean. Just put everything but the base in the dishwasher. Keep in mind it makes a slight noise when running and that is normal. We called their customer service and they were very helpful.I had it exchanged with another unit that works perfectly. I steam vegetables a lot and this has been great for that. When I do Artichokes I slice them in half, put them on the steaming rack instead of the steam containers and put the large lid on. If I'm going to grill them I let them steam on high for 15 minutes. If I'm just steaming them to eat I let them go for about 20 to 22 minutes and they come out perfect. I have steamed whole fish with great success and am experimenting with other things to steam.

So far it has worked flawlessly for me once I had the replacement model. But that one was really bad. When it came I turned it on with water and everything by Manual Book. BUT. it stop working after 2 minutes. I plugged it in different socket and it stop working in 1-2 minutes again. Also in that 1-2 minutes I've noticed that only one zone is working.Pretty simple product should work without any issue it's as simple as kettle. But it doesn't. I wish Breville controls quality better.First, there was no hard water test kit. This evening I loaded it up with water, placed two artichokes in the steamer, turned it on and it ran about 3 minutes and went completely blank. I couldn't turn it back on so I plugged something else into the outlet to make sure it wasn't a power issue and it wasn't. Three times I was able to turn it on and have it run a couple of minutes, shut completely down and have to let it sit 5 - 7 minutes before I could turn it back on again. Am terribly disappointed.. it will be returned to Amazon tomorrow. Can easily cook two large chicken breasts in one pan while steaming veggies in the other pan. 2. Feature of two pans allows both foods to be cooked simultaneously, even with chicken on low steam and veggie on high steam. 3. Feature of synchronized cooking means both pans will be done cooking at same time. 4. Super easy to clean. 5. So far very happy with this product. Have primarily made chicken and steamed vegetables.I have been following a very healthy way of eating and this steamer is wonderful for that. I use it almost every night to steam my healthy vegetables and it's so quick and easy to use and clean and fits so much more than most other steamers, plus it looks really nice on my counter, too. I can't say enough good things about this steamer. I highly recommend it.I read the reviews and everyone loved it but others like me said their unit was defective. The steamer only produced steam on one side and after only 15 seconds shut itself off.

I never got to cook anything in the unit. I think that those people that got good units loved them and myself and others that got defective units never got a chance to see how it could really work. Too bad: (The steaming tray, lid, steamer pots are all stainless steel, contrary to ones made out of glass (breakable) or plastic (too many problems). The drip tray is BPA-free, and catches the grease well from the food placed above. All parts are dishwasher safe, except the main water tank which connects the power cord. This is the safest steamer to use, and really, there aren’t that many steamers made out of stainless steel. This is a special one. And Breville products last long. The frozen fish was cooked and delicious to eat. Frozen vegetable were as well cooked to favourable taste. But the highlight is cooking sweet potatoes. In 30 minutes HIGH, they become flavourful, soft, and cooked excellently (like oven-cooked sweet potatoes). It was not complicated learning how to use it. There are the manual and helpful videos online regarding this popular steamer. And I can’t think of any “cons” with this.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Cost: At first glance this item may look a lot more expensive than other steamers on the market but you should consider that with the Breville steamer you are actually buying two steamers in one.

Both sides can be programmed separately and unlike other single steamers if one side eventually stops working you still have the other side to use. Size: This is a big unit but again its technically two steamers so you should expect twice the size. It also will hold a lot more. The removable plug sticks out a bit so I would recommend removing it if you want to push it back against a wall when storing. Operation: From what I can tell it operates by spraying the water onto the heating element which almost instantly turns it to steam. This allows for a very fast startup time and makes a very quiet chug chug sound (kind of like listening to a steam locomotive). Its also a lot quieter than our previous steamer and the sound is kind of relaxing. When cooking some items we only turn on one side of the steamer and use the main lid. Clean up: The lid and base are easy to clean. The power cord can be removed so you don't have to worry about it dropping into the sink when cleaning. Plastic material for the base and drip tray wipe clean with just a paper towel. Only niggle is the drip tray. After a full run (45 min) the water level in the tray is very close to the top. As the tray fits snugly in place working it loose without spilling the water is tricky but can be done. Secondly, there is a divider that separates the drip tray in two. So when pouring out the water you have to be careful (hence the 4 stars). After each use we use a paper towel to remove the calcium and lime scale from the steam heads. It only takes a couple of seconds and will prevent issues later. The descaling feature is simple and so far we only had to do it once. One thing to note, if it tells you it's time to descale and you ignore it it will eventually shut off and not work until you run the descale mode. Other: Make sure you insert the removable plug all the way. The fit is a bit tight and the first time I used it it came loose because I did not push it all the way in.

Once I figured it out the was no problem. If you fill the steamer to the max and run it till its empty (45 min) the drip tray will be just about full. As you can eaily refill the steamer from the outside be careful not to cause the drip tray to overflow. Overall I am very happy with this steamer and would highly recommend it if you do a lot of this type of cooking. If a steamer is something you only use once in a while then I would recommend getting something cheaper.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It has stainless-steal cooking surface which is a good thing to have. It has a digital readout which easy to see and use, and has two independent steaming control: simultaneous cooking for foods that require different steaming times. So far we tried steaming salmon, and some veggies. They turned out really good. Using this Breville Steamer is a good way to cook healthy foods. The only draw back is the lid not made of glass, thus you cannot see the food being steamed, thus we rate the steamer at 4.5 stars.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Initially I really enjoyed it and did loads of veggie steaming. But that's all I was doing with it and I was still cooking meat etc with a different method and appliance. It eventually found its way to one of my kid's kitchens. This is why I got excited about the Breville BFS800BSS The Steam Zone Food Steamer - it steams more than one type of food at a time. A 'Split Zone' lets you steam two different food items at the same time. That AND a 'Sync Finish' setting ensures both foods will finish at the same time. There are two glass lidded baskets. But note that you're not limited to using the two baskets. The large tray allows you to steam directly on it as well. Operation is pretty easy. Choose one side or both or full tray. Set the level, time, press start and that's it. There is also anadjustable keep warm setting as well. A small water window lets you know if water level is okay.
You'll hear two beeps and see a message on the LCD screen. A small 'spout' on the right front allows you to add water while cooking. The steamer has a rapid start button and reaches max streaming level in less than thirty seconds. I timed it and yes, it did. There are high and low settings for both cooking and keep warm. The Steam Zone is just plain pretty to look at - gleaming stainless steel - lids, tray, housing and baskets. The drip tray is plastic - BPA free. An LCD screen on the front of the base is home to the settings. I've done rice, potatoes (a whole sweet potato only took 30 minutes and was much nicer than in the oven), veggies, fish and chicken (fresh and frozen. There are two pages of cooking guide times for basic foods. Steaming honestly does not take that much longer than cooking with the oven or fry pan. And we're looking to eat healthier, so this is a great option. The food tastes fresh and the nutrients aren't boiled out. A strip to test your water hardness is included. The plug in end of the cord is unique - it's called an Assist cord and allows the user to pull out the plug with only a finger instead of grasping. Inside the steamer lid, you'll find permanent instructions on descaling the steamer. (There's a specific pre-set cycle for this. And in fact the steamer will not allow you to cook until it is descaled!) I like the attention to detail. This unit has a one year limited warranty. Overall - quite amazing. The steam zone is an invisible area just above the boiling water which holds the greatest heat energy. Therefore it's ideal for steaming food effectively.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I thought it is the perfect steamer that I've dreamed of but i was wrong. For me it doesnt make any difference from the other plastic steamers out there. The boiling water that steans the food in the stainless plate and pot was boiled from a plastic base is not acceptable. The Breville messed up in this part.
Theres no point of buying stainless if it is contaminated by plastic wether bpa or not. It was like only dressed up by stainless but the steam was fumed by a plastic. I have to return mine as it is also defective. I think the breville should follow the concept of Hanex or Euro Cuisine FS2500. It is quiet bulky but guaranteed stainless from bottom to top.The plastic part is only at the outside that doesnt affect the food.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I have been using a 5 or 6 year old steamer to steam vegetables about 3 times per week, and while it does the job, I have always kind of hated it. The containers that held the food were made of plastic and it just isn't that healthy to steam food in lots of plastic all the time. Then there was the clean up, the spills and the annoying interface. This Breville is a whole other kind of experience and it's only now that I see the true potential of what a good steamer can bring to my life. The tray and baskets that hold the food are all made from stainless steel, so there's no plastic or aluminium coming into contact with my food. This makes me happy. There's one large tray which can be used alone for cooking a large batch of one food type. And there's the option of using one or both of the included baskets, which both have lids. I can put broccoli in one basket and carrots in the other without everything ending up tasting roughly the same due to the flavours mixing together. Or I can put only one basket on one side and put another food on half of the main tray if I want to fit something larger on that side. The most impressive part is that each side of the steamer can work independently at different temperatures and for different lengths of time. It sounds complicated but once you get the hang of it it's quite simple. The steamer heats up really quickly and is very easy to wash afterwards.
Needless to say, my old steamer is going to be given away or donated to a charity shop, as this is better in every way possible. And if you are new to steaming and don't want to make the mistake I did, which was put up with a cheap and annoying unit for years, it's worth making the investment into something like this one so that you have a much more pleasant experience. When a steamer is so well designed and easy to use, it encourages me to use it more often and the end result of that is a healthier diet.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I'm just not sure what I think about the idea of steaming food. It often comes out rather flavourless. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is large and heavy.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. It cooked a little slower than some machine so it’s the perfect cooker for those out of the house all day at work etc or for whatever reason need long cooking times with great results I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a next level slow cooker with extra features and great cooking results. Categories: Blog, Reviews It’s my 3rd slow cooker but I had to have one that seared. Reading your review makes me want to get it up and running ?? My first thing I am cooking is chicken bone broth which I cook for 48 hours in my old slow cooker so I will be curious to see how long it takes in this one. Thanks for a wonderful site Liz But tell me, with the steam function, can you cook rice??? Hardly slow cooking. thanks! Most desserts etc are way less. Some recipes are for 2hrs and then it can go on warm. Not a huge deal but just would be good to bypass the 6hrs. Thanks heaps. I’ve never experienced this before in any slow cooker I’ve owned so not sure it’s working correctly. Should the slow cooker make clicking noises as it seems to every minute or so, maybe even a little less. Not sure if it the thermostat or if it’s faulty and therefore not heating properly. Any advice welcomed, thanks ?? I bought one a week ago and its making the same clicking noise. When we took temperatures it varied a lot and didn’t seem to get hot enough. Replacement one clicks every 30 seconds or so too so assuming that’s normal. Many thanks. Ken Everything I tried to cook in it failed or took hours longer than expected. Took it back thinking it was faulty. The second one was the same. Got my money back and bought another brand wich I am happy with. I’d suggest you contact them ?? My 2nd one is working fine so far, I’ve cooked 2 meals on low but the power can still only be switched off at the power point when the manual says to depress Start button for 3 seconds.
